So yesterday, I went in for a fetal scan. It's basically a really long ultrasound session where the tech takes a bunch of measurements of each baby and checks for some birth defects. It was really hard to understand her since she had a really thick accent, but here's what I know.
* The twins are definitely boys. This time their legs were spread wide open and there was no mistaking the frank and beans on each baby.
* One baby has a slightly bigger head than his brother but has a smaller chest.
* Both babies head sizes puts them at the right age, so their sizes are good.
* They are really rough on each other in my oven. One baby was kicking and dancing on the other's head, which we saw before, but this time the other baby was holding both arms in front of his face in defense. I guess it's a rough world in my belly, and they are already learning to defend themselves.
My next appointment with my doctor is Sept 2. She will go over the results of the ultrasound with me and do all the other normal checkups. The good news is that Javier will be able to go with me since he won't have school that day. From here on out, we'll have scheduled ultrasounds once a month. ..... We only have 3 more months to go!!
Speaking of 3 more months to go. I feel like that is right around the corner. It kinda makes me feel panicky and excited at the same time. My biggest hope is that I can carry the babies as close to term as possible. So far, things look good. My weight gain has been slow and steady. My blood pressure is good so far. My cervix is nice and long.
In other news, I'm still not done with the house. It's coming along slow and getting out of hand. Javier is really getting irritated by the lingering mess and has been encouraging me to get going. I really want to get it done no later than this coming week because I want to start getting the babies room ready. Oh, and I don't think I mentioned before, but we have decided what to do with the babies room. Javier has been calling our babies our little changos ( in spanish, it means monkeys) since we conceived, so we are going with a monkey theme. Our colors will be brown, blue and green. It's been so fun buying things for them. When I get unpacked and get their room put together, I will post pics.

Our Boys
Yesterday was a great day! My dad celebrated his 56th birthday and my gift was our news of our twin boys. Yes, the Garcia last name will go on! My grandfather, Adolfo (Fito), had 2 sons. My father then had two sons, and now, I will have 2 sons.
With today's technology, we now have pictures of our boys at 21 weeks and 5 days while still in mommy's oven. It is amazing! We saw how active Joaquin is and how laid back his brother Jacob is. At one point, Joaquin was kicking away at poor Jacob. Eventually, Jacob had enough and kicked back. Then, Joaquin moved around and came around and kissed Jacob on the forehead. It was simply amazing and almost surreal to see this in real time on a monitor. If any of you out there ever get the chance to do 3d/4d imaging, do it- it's worth every penny.
Here are some pictures we got from the imaging place. The staff there was absolutely top notch. They seemed to be as excited and enthusiastic about our babies as we were. It was a great positive experience and we left there floating on cloud nine.
Yesterday was a great day!

Drum roll, please..........
Ok, it's the news everyone has been waiting for.........
we are having twin BOYS!!!
We are both surprised and overjoyed. I don't know why, but I never really entertained the idea of having two boys. I always thought it was two girls or a boy and a girl. Now that we know, we are both very happy. Javier is a beaming father, talking about all the things he wants to do with his sons. If anyone is curious about their names, we have already picked them out. The active one that likes to dance in my belly is Joaquin and the mellow baby is Jacob Javier. We are currently disputing Joaquin's middle name, so we'll have to see about that one.
So Joaquin and Jacob will be 22 weeks tomorrow.
Today, we will do a little baby shopping since I have been dying to do so for a long time now.
It's still hard for me to believe. We're having two sons. We found out last night when we went to get a 3D/4D ultrasound. We were able to see their faces in 3D and they are as cute as can be. They are a great size and look healthy.
Life is good.

21+ weeks and counting
Ok, so we're 21 weeks and 5 days today. Yesterday, we went to see my OB who will be following my pregnancy here. For now, we're going to Fort Belvoir Army hospital. We are still considering changing our insurance and switching the civilian sector, but haven't decided for sure yet. Anyway, all seems to be going well. My weight gain has been slow and steady and I guess that's the best way to go. I have some blood work that I need to get done, the routine kind. We had a quick ultrasound and both babies have good heartbeats and seem to be on track. We couldn't tell the sex from this one though. One of the babies was camera shy and wouldn't open his/her legs. The other one was too hard to tell either way. So we plan on making another appointment to find out for sure. What we could see was that one of the babies is way more active than the other one. I always feel one more than the other, but it was really amazing to see it on the screen. The active one looked like it was just dancing around and using the other twin as a punching bag. The other baby is less active and more laid back. I suspect that is because it is on top and just hanging out. The bottom baby is the one kicking and punching. If they're already fighting for space now, I don't want to think about how it's going to be outside the womb. Last night Javier felt the active baby for the first time. He said it felt like a gas bubble, but I assured him that it was the little kicker.
So the pregnancy is going fine. The nausea is almost totally gone. Only now and again do I feel sick to my stomach. I still get a lot of indigestion. I feel the babies move a lot more, except for the sluggish one. I'm still pretty tired a lot. I try to take naps when I can. My blood pressure is good and low with nothing to worry about so far. I'm eating a little better, but still not very much. I just don't have the room.
Javier is doing well in school. We are going to a picnic that his school is putting together to get us all to socialize with each other.
The house is coming along, albeit at a snail's pace. There just always seems to be other things to fill my day than unpacking boxes. At least the kitchen and living room are done.
Hmm..... I think that's about it for now. Hopefully, we'll get the next ultrasound very soon and have more interesting news to report. I'm very anxious to find out so we can finally start buying things.
